500 years ago… The final Sunday of each October is known as Reformation Sunday. Sadly, for many, this time has been eclipsed b500 Reformationy Satan’s holiday – Halloween! While we are not a “reformed” church, we can appreciate the recovery of central Bible truths by the reformers, particularly the centrality of the Scripture and of the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. True Christians embrace the Reformer’s cry that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone as revealed sufficient from the Word of God alone – all for the glory of God! It was on October 31, 1517, that Martin Luther protested the sale of indulgences by the Roman Catholic Church. To celebrate the Reformation we have learned a new hymn, enclosed biographies in the weekly bulletins, listened to several reformation monologues on Sunday nights, gave out a devotional, and today I will preach on the 5 Solas from God’s precious Word.

My conscience is captive to the Word of God. M. Luther
